This journal will serve as the opening crawl for Another Set of Eyes, a second-person story that diverges from Star Wars canon shortly after the ending of The Force Awakens. Obviously, there will be TFA spoilers!
While the occasional item might figure in from the canon novels at my discretion, I generally do not factor in the Star Wars novels or comics in my work and may sometimes outright ignore or contradict them. I expect I will still be working in this alternate universe (AU) by the time The Last Jedi comes out, if not Episode IX as well. While elements of those movies may appear in their own time in later chapters or stories, this will also be entirely at my discretion given that once one change occurs--especially one so crucial from a character evolution standpoint--all bets as to what happens next are off. Depending on what I do, spoilers for these movies may appear as well.
A possibility also exists that events thousands of years ago also play a role in ever so slightly reshaping the future, in addition to the grave decision that Kylo Ren makes that fateful night on Dantooine. It is not necessary to read In the Burning of the Light to follow The Force Awakens, but I think readers of ASoE may enjoy it as well
Below follows a prologue for ASoE, as well as a guide to the world of ASoE and the soundtrack that accompanies it.

Why it's bad to speculate on the bridge collapse
(Meant to post this a few days earlier but traveled to visit my parents...) The footage of the bridge collapse in Maryland is scary, for sure, and the impact it's had on so many people is painful to say the least and my heart goes out to anyone who in any way has been affected. Of course, one of the first impulses after trying to save lives when something like this happens is to try and pin the blame. However, I saw a LOT of wild speculation on the news by people who really have no idea about what the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has to do to really figure out the many things that came together to make an accident like this occur. The investigation will most likely take a couple of years, and that's because there are A LOT of factors that have to be investigated thoroughly, from the bridge, to emergency procedures, ship design, maintenance, and human factors. You cannot pin something like this, in the vast majority of cases, on one person or circumstance

The first thing I saw when I woke up and looked at my phone was a headline stating that one of the most prominent members of the Russian opposition to the Kremlin had died. We all know very well this was not due to natural causes, and those who expect anyone to believe otherwise either think their audience has the intelligence of a rock or they think the fear of the unspoken truth will be their weapon. It can only become their weapon if we--ordinary humanity; I'm not talking about anyone special here!--allow them to use it that way! I'm not a fool enough to not understand that there are other weapons the fearmongers can use, the kinds that actually take lives. Obviously that is exactly what happened
Representation: How to Do it Wrong and Do It Right
(This journal entry will have mild spoilers for my new Star Wars AU fic, "Lucky the Danger Tooka." I recommend reading that first if possible.) I'm not sure how many of my watchers also play the mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, but if the character who showed up in a starring role in my latest fic seemed at all familiar to you, it's because Captain Fennro Drogan was introduced in that game as part of the runup to the launch of the new Galactic Legend, a Return of the Jedi version of Leia. He was an entirely new creation for SWGOH, and some players got upset because they believed Bail Organa should have been introduced to the game and assigned that spot on the path towards obtaining GL Leia. That's understandable in that Bail Organa is a huge part of Leia's story and you typically expect characters on a Galactic Legend's path to have significance to that character's hero (or villain) journey, especially when they are a named character. Prayer Requests for my Friends, and a Few Updates
Well, thanks to some stupid eating choices when one has acid reflux, my first act of the New Year was praying to the porcelain goddess. Harbinger of what kind of year 2024 is going to be? I hope not. (I'm okay now, don't worry.) Please pray for my friends @Masterof4Elements and @EsmeAmeliaSolo. Both have had an extremely rough 2023 with medical battles, and M4E received some really tough news today according to her status update today. Both of them could use your support. Both are really outstanding friends to me, who have written awesome stories, and have been there when I've been through rough times, so I really want to rally as much support for them as possible. I know it's not much, but I will have a cute short fic titled "Lucky the Danger Tooka" coming out tomorrow, that was spawned off of my much more serious fic-in-progress, "The Mark of the Beast."
